I'm trying to figure out if the soil pipe running into our house is made from asbestos. The stack is definitely metal. When I hit it with a stick it clearly rings, but from the Y joint about eight feet up to where it disappears into the house the sound is hollow and non-metalic.
The house was built in the very early 50s, and AFAIK no asbestos was used anywhere else in it's constuction.
Can anyone tell me the likelihood that is it asbestos and a definitive check? Is there any other material it could be made from (plastic or something). I don't think it's ever been modified, so whatever is there now was problably put in when the house was constructed.
Cheers
