Just brought a run around the bonnet paint work isn’t great any easy ideas to make it better or recommend any products

More than likely that going through over 20 years of UV rays beating down on the bonnet, especially in our British summers (not) - the laquer has degraded. As Nozzle says. If this is the case, nothing short of a respray of the bonnet will get it shining again.

I would be concentrating on what's happening under the bonnet for now. Previous owners of older cars often skip essential maintenance. Make sure the oil and filter have been changed recently, the antifreeze is up to strength and the cambelt isn't about to snap. Should give the old girl a chance of surviving a few more years.
