I've got an old attached garage with a very low pitch roof going away from the house to a single brick wall (with piers). The 2x4 rafters seem to just sit on the top of that wall, with just a fascia nailed on the outside.
I can't see how they are fixed if at all. They don't sit on a timber plate, just on the bricks.
On the side where the rafters attach to the house they sit in holes made in the double thickness (no cavity) wall. Again, no idea how they can't just be pulled out, other than weight.
Anyone suggest how they might have been fixed (back in the 70's or 80's, when the bloke down the pub built your garage for you) and what to look for? Or how best to sort it out if they are just sitting there loose?
Thanks!
Carl.
