Hi, I have just ordered a new soild oak fire surround for our fireplace. We are having the cottage look and leaving our fireplace open. What is the best way of attaching the solid oak fireplace to the wall without using screws? I dont really want anything like that on show. As the fire surround will be the rustic look we dont really want to paint it either. Any ideas?

Thanks

I think as a rule wooden surrounds are fixed with plates (like mirror plates) screwed to the back of the surround pointing outwards they are recessed into the plaster slightly, screwed to the wall and then covered with filler

If you can fix it with a set of tapered cleats, the downward force keeps everything tight to the wall...pinenot :)

footprints is on to it: typically, fire surrounds come with attached fixing lugs - two per side - that are recess into the plaster, plug and screwed, and then patched over.

Or, as above, fix your own plates.
