I am thinking of having a loft extension in my house eventually, could anyone tell me what would I do about my current loft insulation. Surely you don't just board over it?.
A drawing plan will be needed with building permission and sometime planning permission if the size of the roof have to be altered but not if you're having velux windows in most cases. Will need bigger joists etc, pop down to your BCO and they will help you what to do.
Sorry, forgot to say that planning permission was given last year and on purchasing the house, the plans came with it. The roof already has 2 velux windows put in and the plans are for a dormer also. I am aware that permission only lasts for 5 years however I am thinking of putting a staircase in anyway so at least the extension will have started. If I decide just to use the space that's up there and not bother with the dormer would I have to reapply for planning permission?, as I would not be externally altering the building. Still not sure about the existing loft insulation!!. Please advise. Many thanks
