Auger Bit size?

Silly question I know - but, when an auger bit or a drill of any description is shown as 200mm in size, is that the total length 200mm - or is it only the cutting distance, with an extra distance in addition for chuck holding? making it possibly about 230mm in total?

Should be overall length.
