Apparently they were turned down because she didn't have a 'trade' & neither did he!

Made me laugh really as she is an accounts manager earning 18K a year and he has his own transport business with heaven knows how many lorries on the road. He is also a qualified HGV driver. She also has qualifications in catering that she did when she left school.

They are hardly scroungers and as I posted earlier they were going to buy land and build over there as most of his family is there now. They were actually hoping to take early retirement . But obviously weren't what Australia wanted.

They've decided not to go anywhere else and have just moved into a new house and bought their kids brand new VW's as well as a Porsche for him. Mate already has a 6mth old Merc 'weird car'!

thats maybe how it should be here, if youve not got the quals or trades we want your not getting in, never mind if youve got a couple of quid or family and friends?

you mention early retirement? I think I heard that they aren't keen on people going over there with a short working life ahead of them, they don't want coastal gated communities of rich retired foreigners who aren't integrated into society.

Thing is, they have got trades..... he's got an HGV and she's got catering qualifications and also accounting qualifications & they weren't going to retire just yet but maybe in about 10 years time. He'd already been offered a job by one of his family.

Ah well, in a way I'm glad they are still here though a sunshine hols in Aus with mates would have been nice

JohnD that made me laugh.... how was Australia started? Yeah, by foreigners all going over to work off their sins

if he had been an iragi or pakistani with nothing in his pockets and even less in his head and he sneaked in then he would be ok

funny world

If you are not on the list of 'required' trades / professions and over 45 then tis hard, but all laid out on their web sites.
20 mil inhabitants .. 10 mil working .. I guess they must try to do what is best for Australians, not a bad way to go on really.
I like it there .... They'll be free when we are on horseback again.. wait and see !
;) :D :D

did they just fail because of his trade or hers. only one of you applies so maybe they didnt score enough points? I got my skills accessed last year and scored 115 which was 5 under but there was a chance i could go state nominated in victoria because of a skills shortage. I would have to stay 2yrs. This year or last im not sure but they posted skills in short supply, cant remember the name of the list but solid plastering was one of them and they are giving an extra 20 points if you have a job to go to and 15 if you havent so happy days. I spent a year researching on forums http://britishexpats.com this is a good one.id love to go in 2yrs and i think it might be the best option the way things are going.

Watch how you go out there ,
A old freind of mine went to AUS in the late sixties then got him self in a bit of bother told the judge he would rather join the Australian army , the judge dually aboliged .He thought at the worst he would go to Vietnam as a med vac but ended up as combat when his training finished
