Hi I bought a AV sender from ASDA at the weekend, it works perfectly apart from one small problem. It blocks all my neighbours and my remote central locking on our cars! Any idea why that would happen and is there something that can be done?

That's a bit unusual. I haven't come across much in the way of interference with car fobs before. But I suppose if they use the same free-to-use wireless channels that TV senders, Dect phones, BlueTooth dongles, baby monitors, wireless CCTV cams, wireless routers, and anything else using wireless comms occupies then it's bound to crop up as a problem sooner or later.

Wireless is very limited to the amount of channels that can co-exist. Try switching your TV sender to a different channel, or take it back and get a 5.8MHz one if possible.

Many cheaper units do not have the filters of more expensive types and although not had this problem with AV senders I have had it with 2 meter and 70 cm amateur transmitters especially with Ford cars.

One poor guy had to plead with local amateurs to stop using local repeater for 5 minutes while he drove his car away from under transmitter. And the filters in a repeater are very good so in that case it was the car at fault.

Iv looked at the digisender x4 its more expensive but do you know if I will have the same problem?

There's less chance of interference with a 5.8GHz sender...but no guarantees. Buy from a retailer where you can return it if the thing doesn't work.

Domestic wireless just isn't that reliable. It's always my last choice of connection method. A bit of wire might be a pain to run, but it works and keeps on working.

I would agree. Also with coax you can also remotely change channels on a Sky box with digi-eye as far as I know this is not possible with wireless links?

My sister has one of the wireless links and it is forever going wrong and glad I have seen hers as now I know not to use.

It is likely problem is with cars and as already said this has caused problems in the past with other transmitters including locking doors and I have seen where people have been locked out of their cars.

My car has a warning that cell phones should not be used in the car unless connected to exterior aerial but my sisters car has built in system to give hands free operation to any blue tooth phones in the car so it seems modern cars have improved their immunity to interference.

Some old Vauxall Cars had problems with ABS brakes if a radio transmitted close to car. I think there was a recall when highlighted by a radio ham who worked for an insurance group and they inquired about accidents where driver said brakes has failed as to if Taxi, Police, Ambulance were near the car at the time and in a good few cases there were vehicles likely to have transmitters near them at time of failure.

This is why I though mobile phones could not be used inside Vauxall cars but may be it is because of remote locking?

Out of interest what is the car affected?

Wasn't there some town in the Lake District where motorists were having the same problem recently? I think it was traced to some cafe's use of those wireless card terminals, where the waitresses could take card payments at tables outside. Drivers were coming back to their cars and unable to unlock them with the remote control. ;) ;) ;)

Normally automated doors on supermarkets cause remote control of car remote to work..a remote system like an AV transmitter would cause air traffic control systems to mess up, if the crystal was unlocked...?

I don't think you have an option you will have to return the AV sender to ASDA.

However it is likely both the cars and sender are at fault. The regulations lay down how much out of band interference and rejection all radio controlled items must have but as a radio ham we see again and again these limits in both directions are breached.

Since car manufactures tend to buy in components it is possible Vaxhall and Ford use same supplier and since Landrover was Ford very likely Landrover and ford are the same.

But having just got a record deck from ASDA and also had problems with it, It would seem ASDA is stocking some cheap tat and in the future I will remember that.

Please do post outcome when you return goods. It may help others with same problem.

I would go for three stages.
1) Swap in case just that one faulty.
2) Different model.
3) Money back and hard wired.
