AVG v Kapersky

Just removed all traces of Norton 360 from all 4 PC's and was just wondering what thoughts you all have about the above 2 anti virus/firewall programs?

I am on a trial of AVG at present, but have been told that kapersky is better.

I used to swear by Norton, until my subscription expired and when it did it locked out all internet access Ba**a*ds

Kaspersky has the better reputation BUT both Internet Security Suites are good, and probably better than Norton.

As you have four PCs, the AVG Internet Security Suite may be a bit of a problem as it is sold with licences for one or three PCs, ( 3 cost £49.99) so you would have to have a think about your fourth PC.
Kaspersky IS2009 can be licenced for 1, 3 or 5 PCs. (5 cost £69.99).

You don't say who or what each PC is used by or for. you could considere the AVG for three and put some free security software on the fourth one, which would mean doing manual updates and scans. Can you trust the user to be methodical in doing scans and updates?

I've just binned AVG after version 8 seemed slow, Avast may also be worth a look, I've got that on 1 PC and seems good.

Just to clarify what you are asking about. are you wanting Full Security Suites as the Norton 360 was, or are you wanting separate antivirus software, antispyware software and a separate firewall program.
I assumed in my first reply that you were after just one program with it all included. If so, consider the costing for licences.

scrap AVG and run AVAST

kaspersky is very good as is NOD32

everthign else is plain ****e and slows machine down.

Ask 10 people, you'll get 10 different responses. A lot depends on the spec. of the machine and what you are trying to protect yourself from. To be honest, most protection comes from common sense.

But for my 2 penneth worth. Norton have the best A/V engine, but their Internet security packages are bloated.

In addition to the above posts, F-Secure is ok for home use, but has issues in network environments. Kaspersky has similar.

Avast is a good package. Had one or two issues with WMI, but nothing major.

Nod32 is also good.

Don't pay for these, you gain nothing.

I always install the Free AVG antivirus and the free zonealarm firewall.

As long as you set regular updates, they do a great job.

I've set them up on 20+ PCs in the last 18 months and noone's had a problem.

I installed Kaspersky on my laptop (Vista) as we got it at work with licenses to allow us to use it at home too.
For the few days it was on, it really slowed the PC down something rotten.

So took it off & put AVG8 back on, I much prefer this, hasn't let me down yet.

I now have AVG 8 on 2 Pc's and Kaspersky on my laptop, both on 30 day trial.

Both are letting the computers work visibly faster than Norton and Kaspersky has detected 2 Trojans that arrived in repeat dodgy e-mails that Norton never found, but I was suspicious and deleted them anyway.

Yes Dave I do want a full security suite. I have tried the zone alarms etc but it gave me very bad problems after about 2 years use so I removed it.

I would go with ESET security suite, very small memory footprint and also includes a firewall which is adaquete.

I run an IT services company and this is something I have a lot of experience. AVG is better but like others said version 8 is a bit of pain, Avast is uses less resources but is not as effective at removing viruses.

On my laptop I don't have any anti virus software at all, I just don't need it.
