Awning blind for roof window

Hi,

Does anyone have an awning blind for a roof window which is relitavely inaccessible?

We are considering getting them in our extension but they won't be that accessible. Are they the kind of things you put in place for the summer months and then leave there? Do you find they are effective in keeping the heat out?
