I have just tried to find a price for some 18mm MDF on their site

MDF I searched under.....no luck

I tried to find it under timber products.....nope

I rang their help line they couldn't find it on their site either

It was suggested that I ring the local store...so I did, after the phone had rung for 37 times (I counted, sad but true) a bored sounding lady answered the phone so I asked the question again.......nice but bored lady found me the price (hurrah) and I asked where on the website it was for future reference. NBB lady told me that not all products were on the website and she had gained the price by looking on the stores own system

FFS

The morale of the story is "Go To Wickes"

I typed cra**y not rubbishy in the title

no, the moral of this story is not go to wickes, its B & Q has a less than useful website, and if you want timber, go to a timber yard, if you want a laugh go to B & Q

B&Q site must be the worst site ever, their hosts must be snailspace.com. Wickes has a far more useful site, and very logically laid out. Although Timber merchants are great the convenience of a 7 day a week, late openings is a lifesaver sometimes.

Perhaps if people were to complain to B&Q head office about it, saying that they refuse to use it or shop at B&Q because of it they may take some notice
and change it.

Or they may just do nothing.

I found that B&Q megastores will give you four free cuts on any sheet materials with their in-store panel saws,a service not offered by Wickes.

This can be spectacularly useful when it comes to transporting 8x4 foot sheets of MDF in a family car,and saves you from paying full sheet money for half a sheet just so it'll fit in your car.

I found that timberyards can be very evasive about their prices, and seem to prefer for you to only find out the actual cost when you reach the till, which can be a bit of a shock, and for MDF B&Q are cheaper anyway.

The board cutting service is an attraction but quite often it is withdrawn at my local store as they put up a sign stating "timber saw broken" when they mean "can't be bothered to operate it".

I had a right go at the manager blokey on one particular visit as I checked on the way into the store that the saw was working, by the time I had put my boards on the trolley and got back to the saw the bl**dy "broken" sign was up. I had to come back later after the operator had finished his lunch  when the saw was operational again.

Getting the longer 4.2M length of timber into cars is good fun. Its normally always raining and I'm there with my saw chopping these long lengths to manageable sizes with everyone watching thinking I'm a madman. Its normally a few quid cheaper if you buy the longer lengths so well worth it!

It's nice to know I'm not the only one that's not frightened to break out the tools in a B&Q car park in a desperate attempt to save money.
