They were talking about this on the radio earlier, so I looked it up and there it was:

Well, it is, of course, political correctness that has been sectioned under the mental health act.

Baa baa Rainbow Sheep? My main problem with this is that the word 'Rainbow' is too long. It doesn't fit. Plus, I've seen black sheep before, but I've never seen a rainbow coloured one.

As for leaving out the ending of Humpty Dumpty so that children don't get upset when he falls off the wall, and omitting the seven dwarves from Snow White - well, you have to laugh don't you.

Some people really do get a bit carried away with their sensitivities.

one of my kids xmas plays this year was snow white and the seven ex jockeys!!

That is true!

Not sure how much was policical correctness and how much was taking the p i ss out of pc.
We took it on the level that it was taking the mickey.

Sadly, when I asked my kids why it was called that and not snow white and the seven dwarves, the reply was that they didnt know!!!!!

If the school were going to change the fairytale then I think they should have explained the reasons why to the children.

Otherwise, what is the point.

like doesnt work. i assume you mean this?
Yes, sorry - link corrected now in original post.

Isn't it all ridiculous? And heaven knows what makes them think children would be upset about the ending of "Humpty Dumpty" - IT'S A F***ING EGG!!!

How about:

Humpty Dumpty sat on a wall,
Humpty Dumpty had a great fall.
He fell in the frying pan & then on a plate,
And Humpty became the breakfast I ate!

I have just sent this email to the following people (the last cc is the editor of the local paper):

To: [email protected], [email protected]
cc: [email protected], [email protected], [email protected], [email protected]

Sj: "baa baa rainbow sheep" at Abingdon Family Centre and Sutton Courtenay Sure Start Centre

I would like to complain strongly about this madness.

I am very much opposed to racism, and I want to express how much I abhor this kind of excessive political correctness for just that reason. Every time an organisation promulgates a policy like this, it provides ammunition for the racists. By creating this ludicrous policy, you have provided an example of "anti-racism" that is so ridiculous that nobody with any common sense would agree with it.

What happens then is that the racists will use it as an example of why criticism of racism is *all* daft and over-sensitive, and is *all* "political correctness gone mad", and slowly and insidiously that view takes hold.

Of course people should re-evaluate traditional attitudes, and avoid giving gratuitous offence, but I'm afraid that making changes like this to childrens' nursery rhymes actually does more harm than good to the very groups that you believe you are protecting.

Please put a stop to it now.

its a disgrace the way the world (or just england) is going these days. nothin really worth making you stay unless your an illegal immigrant

Well done that man, and very well-worded too. Please do let us know if any of them can come up with a reply...

"promulgates" You should have kept it simple so they could understand it. They're gonna have to look that up.....like I did :D

I was discussing this with some friends at lunch. The most politically-correct version we could come up with was:

Baa baa rainbow sheep,
Have you any non-descript keratinous fibrous coating?
Yes comrade, yes comrade (can't say sir, that is gender specific)
3 bags full.
(this gets better, as we can't have feudal terms such as "master" and "dame"!)
One for the citizen and one for the citizen,
and one for the citizen who lives along the lane (can't say up or down, apparently "north at top" globes actually cause resentment in the southern hemisphere)

Probably not the school's fault this time. There have been previous reports of Disney threatening legal action over use of copyright material wthout permission or payment.
