If I leave the house on holiday for a few weeks during winter should I turn off the main water supply and empty the tank or leave the heating timed during the day? Many thanks.
Is this gas or oil? How many is 'a few' weeks? Check your house insurance, many have restrictions on max periods of not occupied.
Me personally I set the room stats to 12° and (this is on gas) controller to constant. So if at any time of day temperature drops below that the boiler will fire .
And turn off the cold water stoptap.
And ideally have a friend call round every few days to clear the junk mail pile up and have a look round.
EDIT That's being away for a month.
