Here is a photo of the underside of my mother's boiler. It was installed by BG about 7 years ago and she has had a regular service agreement with them ever since. It has not been a good boiler, it has broken down several times, leaked condensate and filled the kitchen with smoke. Often needing several visits to sort each problem.

Whilst moving the fridge below at the weekend, I looked up and saw this.

The control panel doesn't seem to be fully in position because there are wires trapped between it and the casing at both sides. The white cable with the single black wire protruding is actually a multicore cable with the other cores cut.

I don't think this good wiring practice, I would have expected the cable sheath to be in some sort of clamp, in case it gets pulled, which is possible considering its location hanging under the boiler and have told mum she should complain about it, however she doesn't want to, because the boiler is now actually working the best it ever has and she's frightened disturbing it will cause problems. I don't want to pressure her about it if it's not really an issue.

So, is it wrong? is it likely to cause a problem? Should we get it sorted? or is it better to leave it alone?

Single insulated cables, without an outer sheath, shouldn't be externally accessible like that, but the lids on control panels are usually pieces of underdeveloped cack, so I'm not surprised it's been lft like that.

I agree with your mother.

The only problem you have is its the wrong size core cable thats been used (too thick) on that particular boiler the internal wiring channel is quite narrow which makes it awkward to fit a thicker core.
Change it for a smaller core.
BG obviously couldnt be bothered.

looking at where it is its probably the low voltage switching cable, so whilst its messy and a bit slapdash, its not (potentially)dangerous in anyway.
