Hi all

(This is my first post so please be patient if some of this has already been covered elsewhere then just point me in the right direction)

Here goes...

Right we have a toilet at ground floor level and it works fine but now and again we get a horrible drain like smell that comes from the toilet

I think the problem is the soil pipe, it just drops into the concrete floor - I guess about a metre in depth but there appears to be no stack and definately no venting - am I right in thinking the smell could be because of this? If so then how would I cure the problem? Don't think the drain is blocked but can lift the cover to find out. It is the only toilet using this drain by the way. Hope someone can enlighten me - thanks

I fitted a new pan in my down stairs loo a couple of months ago. I had a similar problem. I found that because it was a different shape than the old one the flexi waste pipe didn't quite make a seal at the back of the pan and the result was a bad smell. because of the angle of the pan to the waste pipe I found that all I could do was to seal it with s silicone bead. Problem solved smell gone
