I have a problem with someone's cottage.
Gravity hot water and upstairs cold.
Oil boiler, room stat, cyl stat 2x 2 port with auto bypass.
The customer noticed the overflow dripping,so I went into the loft and looked into the tank.
Ball valve shut but water flowing up the hot water vent.
The expansion tank is lower than the cold tank.
I had no control of hot water 2 way as someone had obliterated the front of the cyl stat so I couldn't even see what it was set at.
I replaced the cyl stat and noticed the zone valve was not shutting fully,so I replaced the zone valve( I could blow through easily when shut)
Boiler is 18 months old set quite low, pipes are normal heat at airing cupboard
The downstairs cloakroom has a hot gravity/mains cold single lever tap,I can't hear any transfer noises from here.
The pipe work from cylinder ,comes out the cylinder to the back of the airing cupboard then up into the loft. It must then split to feed the house and then vent. It is old 3/4 pipework been working for years ,though I can't see about 2metres of it as the rear loft has no access .
Any ideas why hot is running into the cold tank?
Thanks.
