Hi,

When we moved into our house 8 years ago it had an old fashioned gas fire fitted (which was a balanced flue) and put in a new modern electric fire.

The flue hole through the wall was filled with expanding foam and capped off outside.

I now want to put in another balanced flue, as there are a lot of nice modern ones on the market, however what would I do if the flue position on the new fire doesnt match up with the previously filled hole. I.e what if it is half or a full hole out of postion.

Would I need to brick up the original hole and then after a while re - cut a new hole.

I won't be doing it myself by the way.

thanks

your suggestion is a good one. You won't know 'til you get the new fire where the flue is or you could google the fire you'd like for the exact specifications but if you can't be bothered it becomes the problem of your fitter. He would sooner work on a completed whole wall starting from scratch and this will save you money..
good luck.
