balanced flue

is it ok to put a balanced flue fire directly in the place where a class 2 flue and open gas fire was, the wind apparently used to blow the waste gases back into the room i asked and was told to replace the fire with a balanced flue fire but would this weaken the wallhaving a hole trough an already open cavity. also what is a standard size diameter flue these days its in ia very noticable place and i would like to keep it low key
