I know this has been done to death but I’ve recently had a new boiler fitted and had my rads off and manually flushed them etc so lockshields are all over the place. I want to have a go at balancing my system. My boiler is a Vaillant and there’s an electronic screen on the front that tells me the temperature of the heating water. It’s set at a max of 65° and the return is set at 44° which I believe is correct.

I have one of those point and shoot infra red temperature testers. All my rads have TRV's on them except the one in the lounge where the room stat is situated so, apart from the lounge rad, I turn the heating on, turn room stat up to stupidly high, close off all lockshields on all the rads and open fully all TRV's then, one at a time, I slowly open up the lockshield on each rad until the returning water temperature is 20° lower than the incoming water. I then switch that rad off using the TRV and move on to the next one until they’re all done.

Is that’s it?

It's not an exact science .Ones nearest boiler turn down more than furthest away ones. .then twiddle a bit more. Life is too short for all that flow return temp difference, delta T nonsense,to sit and freeze and save a fiver a year.Unless that is seriously your thing
