Hi there, could anyone help me? I have a boiler that is located downstairs in my kitchen, and a control box to turn the heating on and off upstairs in my bedroom.
You can control upstairs weather to have the heating and water on together or to just have water only. I first encounterd this probelm im about to mention when i first went to use the water only switch. Basically when you use this option the pipes bang really loud, and then the boiler overheats and you have to reset it. I tryed then to have the central heating and water on but to turn off all the radiator valves, the same problem occurs. I cannot get just hot water on its own. The only way that i can get hot water and central heating is to have all of the radiators on full blast, which is a pain!! If you turn any of them down, the pipes bang and then the boiler overheats and stops working! This is really annoying and my gas bills are massive. Does anyone have any idea to why this is happening? The boiler and central heating unit are both Baxi. I would really appreciate it if someone could help me!! Thankyou everyone!!

Kind regards jo

could be a few things its hard to say

could be that your heat exchanger is getting blocked up and finding it hard to get rid of its heat which means it would go onto lock out

it could be that your pump isnt pumping fast enough

best bet is to call a gas engineer out to have a look

Hi thanks for getting back to me! Yes it is really strange, it seems like the only way for the boiler to work properly is for me to switch it to CH and HW and have all the radiators on full!! Everything works fine when its set like that! The boiler was put in in 1995. How many years would you think they can last for before replacing?

I read in another post that when you are running just HW you need to have one radiator switched on full for the boiler to dump the heat is this true?

Many thanks jo

thinking again,
you could have a blockage in the return pipe, it will most probably be there it tee's in, if its a system boiler with tanks etc.

system boiler...theres no age really, 15 years?
combination boiler 10 years?

some boilers dont last five minutes, some others just keep going and going
