Have to say until recently I've had 5 almost trouble free years from our Barcelona, but wonder if someone can help. The boiler has started to occasionally make a rapid, repetitive "clunking" noise, which I think may be being caused by a rapidly opening and shutting of the gas valve, and at the same time the running of the boiler seems to fluctuate.

The "clunking" causes a vibration down the gas supply pipe, which is why I felt the gas valve may be opening and closing. Seems to happen when its been on for a while, the boiler keeps running, although if I shut it down and leave it a while, it starts up and runs ok....until the next time, which may be a few days.

Last weekend, the fuse on the control pcb blew, but this was before we got up so I'm not sure, but guess it was related to the above problem. Any ideas out there?

Peter there's a biglongenormous post on these boilers, I daresay your malaise is described in there somewhere! Do a search.

I'm pleased to say I havn't (yet) had to shoot my Barcelona, with my wife's help the problem was discovered - a dry joint on the ignition PCB (she heard a funny "buzzing" noise which turned out to be arc-ing where the main terminal block connects to the PCB) We're now snug and warm again, which is good considering the current sub-zero temperatures and a 6 week-old baby in the house! I give the boiler a pat and talk to it nicely every day, in the hope that it keeps going! :D
