I recently had to dig up a small section (approx 1m x .5m) of the tiled pathway in front of my front door to run a new water main into my flat.

The main is now in and it's time to fill the hole (approx 300mm deep). I am assuming I lay in about 200mm of hardcore and then pour 100mm of cement (4:1 ratio) and let it set. I have to re lay the Victorian tiles on top of that.

Does that sound right? Is 100mm thick enough? Is a 4:1 sand:cement ratio strong enough?

Any advice gratefully received.

No problem with that but a bit over the top unless you're driving the car over it :) make sure the trench is compact down well & careful not to damage the pipe. When cementing with sand use 3/4" ballast sand, also think about where you want the rain to fall.Still nice to have the strongest footpath in the UK ! ;)

I should have mentioned its in the porchway so will not be exposed to the elements. Also forgot to mention a DPM!

Thanks for the advice anyhow.

Make sure the DPM is below the dampcourse and sealed it round the edge etc..........
