I'm looking to build a new outside workshop. It'll be down the garden, so not attached to, or near any other structures. Size will be about 8' x 10'. Not sure whether to do the workshop itself in wood or blocks (preferred, to keep any thieves out).

It'll be on quite a steep slope, so I'll have to cut in a bit. The slope is wet and there's clay a bit below.

So, how thick to make the base slab? Will it require hardcore? Any special concrete/mix to ask for (particularly given how wet the ground is)?

Any advice appreciated!

When building a structure upon severely sloping ground, it makes sense to dig a strip foundation, lay concrete and build brickwork/blockwork 'till you are out of the ground.
