I'm preparing an area, about 6 feet square, from weeds with a view to laying the above in its place. Am getting rid of as many roots etc etc. prior to applying weed killer, weed control fabric, and sharp sand as a base.
Have read elsewhere that salt is a good weed-killer and, as I live at the sea-side, was wondering if a layer of sand from the beach then a layer of sharp sand would be a good idea for future weed control. Any ideas most welcome.

If you want salt for that small area, why not get a sack of dishwasher salt or even rock salt to spread over the area?

Do't do it! Owning and maintaining a real lawn is a rewarding job. But far more importantly real grass produces oxygen. It provides food and nesting materials for a whole variety of birds, animals and insects and is an important part of Britain's wildlife.
