I am a complete novice at DIY so any information would be very welcome.
I recently bought 2 washbasin and 2 bath taps and had a plumber fit them for me.However a couple of the taps (one of each) are sticking. When I turn the tap there is a slow constant flow of water but if I increase the rate the tap will suddenly shut off altogether and when I turn it on a touch more the water shoots out.Its impossible to control unless it is fully open.
Are the taps faulty or do they need lubricating. If so which type of lubricant should I use.I don't really want to take the taps back to the shop as I will have to pay the plumber again.
Many thanks for your help

Hi Gricey

You say one of each. Do you mean one basin and one bath tap are the sticky ones, or do you mean one cold and one hot are the problems?

Or is it both hot or both cold taps that are sticking?

Makes and models of the taps would be helpful too, as well as any pictures you could upload.

Hi Sam
When the taps were originally installed the 2 hot taps (basin and bath) were sticking. This caused a bigger problem as we have a combi boiler and it kept shutting off continually.I then changed the tap insides around so now both the cold taps are sticking.I'm sorry I have forgotten the make of tap but I bought them from B&Q and they were about £25 per pair.
I have uploaded a photo of one of the taps.

B&Q should have replacement tap inserts for these - usually solves the problem in one go as they come with a new washer.
Best to take the existing ones with you to get an exact match, and turn the new inserts on before you screw them in.
