Does anybody know if waste outlets have change in size over the last 35 years?

ie Is replacing a bath and sink waste going to be a problem on an old suite?

Thanks

Yes probably, sizes change even between brands but you should be able to get a compression fitting to convert to a modern size

do you mean by waste outlets the plug hole crude description but easy to understand if yes then
no I dont think they have changed

are you sure? didn't they change from imperial to metric too?

I believe they have indeed changed from a 1 1/4" to 1 1/2".

1 1/4" is now 32mm and 1 1/2" is 40mm. they are interchangable though, I was initially thinking the question was about the waste pipe.

yep my apologies thats correct and yep they all fit

Has the size increase from 1 1/4" to 1 1/2" been due to the introduction of more powerful showers which need the waste taken away more quickly, specifically power showers?

There are still two different sizes Adam just metric conversion of 1.1/4 1.1/2.
