I have plumbed in a new bath and have a query about the drainage, I've read the general rules. But the only way my 40mm drainage pipe from my bath will fit my waist pipe is to put in a vertical U bend, is this wise to do? the only other thing i could do would be do drill a different hole in my waist pipe?

as long as there is a 75mm water seal yes you comply with regs.
