Bath fitting

When replacing a bath is it necessary to chase out some of the wall plaster to fit the bath edge in to? Some DIY guidance says you should and some doesn't mention it at all

no but sometimes you have to to get the bath to fit

If you're replacing a bath, you might as well go with the flow (forgive the pun). If it has been chased out, leave it chased out, if it hasn't, then don't.
