Hi all

The pipe that takes the water from the bath in my first floor bathroom runs along a horizontal pipe for a few feet before reaching the vertical waste pipe. The horizontal pipe actually runs up hill and I wondered if this is a potential problem or if it needs changing. Here's a picture:

If anyone could advise me I'd hugely appreciate it.

Cheers

Not the best idea as wastes should always go down hill.
Could end up becoming block over time with hair etc.

Looks like you only have a shallow trap aswell.

You are right - the trap is very shallow.

However, there is obviously only limited space under there. Everything is quite tight! Do you think, given this situation, that it will be possible to put things right? Any pointers if so?

Many thanks for your help

Buy a wet vac from wickes for about £30, it will unblock your bath within 20 seconds. Or you could take the bath out and refit a new one the other way around.

I know what I would do.

That bath layout looks exactly like mine, I've got an acceptable fall on my so a couple of things I'd check...
Have you got a slimline trap so you can get more height at plug end?
Can the waste pipe be rerouted so it doesn't initially start low, I mean routing down center of bath away from the bath legs which force it down.

Not ideal but should be ok, best thing for it ( mine is similar ) is fit a hepvo trap. Google it. It's like a non return valve.

We had the very same problem in our bathroom; after 20 years the horizontal pipe was choked with hair and other disgusting stuff. It wasn't possible to re-route the pipe so we ended up cutting a slot in the floor, notching a couple of joists and re-positioning the junction with the outside soil pipe so that the fall was about 2" over the length of the pipe. It took some time and we had to enlarge the pipe exit through the wall but I hope it was worth the effort in the long term.

No problems with blockages at the moment. In fact, the water drains from the bath extremely quickly...

That's not a bad idea. Giving that some thought at the moment and will discuss with the missus....

What would you do?!??!?

That might well be a good idea.... Would I be able to install it at the far end, near where the grey section of pipe goes down into the floor?

Also, I've read a few things about the Hepvo which suggest they might not stand the test of time, so I'd be interested in hearing some opinions on that....

Cheers to everyone for the replies and help.
