Dear all,

Next week I have an electrician attending my residential property to fit a new consumer unit and certify a new kitchen ring/appliance circuit and kitchen lighting. Prior to arranging the work, he made a brief survey visit, during which he advised that he was in acceptance with me undertaking some ‘Donkey Work’ myself to reduce costs. This included installing back boxes, and the installation of wiring and connection of all double gang socket outlets, fused spurs and flex outlets, but leaving front plates loosely screwed to enable inspection. After reviewing the existing installation, he advised that I was required to run a 10mm2 earth cable from the property’s incoming water pipe (situated under the kitchen sink) through to the consumer unit where he would later terminate it.

With respect to the bathroom, the existing installation has a metallic bath with copper piping, non metallic basin with copper piping and radiator again with copper piping. It would be greatly appreciated if someone could advise on the following:-

1.Would a 10mm2 cable (or any other size cable) be required to be run from the bathroom area to the consumer unit area?

2.Would 10mm2 cables (or any other size cable) be required to connect any of the above bathroom items to each other? If so, could a connection from the radiator pipe work be made under the floor, or would the connection to the radiator have to be visible above the floor at entry to the radiator?

Thank you

4mm from bathroom light and switch earth terminals to bath taps, basin taps, bathroom rad

if the wire from the switch to the light has a cpc (earth conductor) you only need to connect to one earth terminal

Thanks very much, on the second question, can I connect to the radiator pipe under the floor and therefore not visible, or does it have to be on show?

A earth connection made using an earth clip has to be accessible for inspection. You could solder the cable to the pipe if your spark is agreeable. He would need to see it and check it before the floor was replaced.
