Bathroom Extractor Fan Cuts Out

We have an extractor fan which switches on when we switch the light on (it is in a small shower/ toilet room)

The fan used to stay on for about 10 minutes after the light was switched off and this dried out the shower door and walls.

recently, it shuts down as soon as we switch the light off. Is there any way of fixing this?

You can see I am not a tradesman or DIY expert!!

Any advice would be appreciated

Sounds as if the timer has given up, buy a new one and replace it, sorry!!

So we can replace the timer inside the little box which controls the light/fan?

Would such a device be available in one of the big DIY outlets like B&Q, Homebase etc?

Would it be difficult to fit?

Probably easier and cheaper just to replace the entire fan unless its a particularly nice model in which case you would probably need to get the part(s) from the manufacturer. Replacing the fan is relatively simple for an experienced diyer . . .

Also, just to check, there has been no alterations to any of the lighting circuit before the fan stopped working on the timer?? If a new light fitting or something has been put up and re-connected incorrectly this could be why the fan isn't working as it's supposed to. Also could be worth checking the switch, light and fan connections for any signs of melting/burning/loose connections - with the power off at the CU of course.

You can get a cheap fan for less than £20, you probably want to be spending around £50 and getting a decent brand for the fan to give you decent service and lifespan. Worth taking the old one down and taking it to the shop so you can get one the same size but if you do this make sure the electrics are left safe while the fan is down.[/i]
