Hi All,
I am just about to embark in ernest on a full bathroom build (I am an amateur) in a new (12ish years) build house. Bathroom is on the 1st floor and has 22mm green chipboard floor. I am going to rip out everything except for some of the studding and the main waste pipes, as the basic layout is not changing. I intend for everything to be tiled in with a few access tiles for the both the sink and the bath. Shower and loo will be fully enclosed but I have specified grohe equipment to limit the risk.
I have been lurking on the forums and think that I have got a decent plan but there are still a couple of questions that I need clarification on, so hopefully some of you experienced guys will help me to get a decent result.
I know that ideally I would replace the CB with ply before overboarding but. The floor is in good condition and doesn't move much, does squeak a little so I am going to screw the floor into the joists at 150-200mm pitches (400mm spaced joists) and then prime the chip board before overboarding with 6mm aquapanel, screwed down on top of some adhesive. I am tiling with 300x600 porcelain tiles (9mm thk) onto mapie proflex adhesive and grouting with ultracolour plus. Oh and putting in some undefloor heating which I was going to put onto the aquapanel and screed with adhesive prior to tiling
So:
I was going to use reisser R2 screws (4.5 x 45mm) ZP as these seem the best screws but are not stainless, should I use Screwfix stainless turbo screws instead? More corrosion resistant but not as good...
Do I need to use adhesive under the auapanels? Does this need to be like a tile adhesive (flexible) or would no more nails be suitable?
What primer should I use over the chipboard? I know, not PVA ;o)
Should I put a levelling compound over the layed heat mat instead of an adhesive screed? If I screed how long should I wait until tiling?
Thanks in advance guys!
