bathroom light pull

hi my downstairs light pull broke the other night the spring inside the switch broke i've taken it off so i can take it to the hardware store to show them what i want the question i've got is my dining room light and an outside light will not go on anymore is it because i've taken the switch off i've checked the fuse box and nothings down it seems very strange i hope i haven't broken anything my husband will kill me also the light is connected to a fan there is a pic i hope you can see it please help

its nothing to worry about, when you get the new switch the other lights will work, so long as you put the wires back in the same place they were

When you took it down did you mark the wires,you need to turn off the power and the two or more which were in the terminal together, you need to put together temporary till you get the new switch.
The one on its own leave out for now

No we cant see the picture. But the supply for the other nights may well be looped through this switch. I hope you made a note of the connections (what went where) before you took it down.

no i didn't mark them i've got 3 red wires in that went in one hole 2 yellow and green that went in another and a red one and green one that went in another how do i add a pic so i can show you

the old switch has a1 a2 and comm and an earth brass screw a bit like inside a plug i think the yellow and red wires went in a2 and the 3 red wires went into comm is this correct

The 3 reds will be lives. You shouldnt have left them dangling and turned the power back on. tut tut.

Out of interest, connect these 3 together and you'll have light in the other rooms.

do you have any terminal blocks (three)
If so . Isolate and put one on each bunch as they were in the switch.

The room light or fan wont work for now, but the others will

i had to turn the power back on because i dont know which switch on the fuse box it was so i just turned the master off also what do terminal blocks look like

You have left live wires hanging out of your ceiling.

They will KILL anyone. They are not bothered who.

they already did.

why not pop along to a diy shed and get a 2 way pullcord, then post back when you have it.

diy shed = B & Q, homebase etc
