Can someone tell me what I’m missing here or if the tap has got some wrong or missing component (see photos). Usually these kind of taps have the ‘shoe’ attached to the tap itself, the washer fits on the underside of this and then that is secured to the sink. In this tap the shoe is separate. The washer fits in the underside of the shoe as normal, but the tap doesn’t fit through the shoe, nor is there a washer to fit between the tap body and the shoe. Surely you don’t just balance the tap body on top of this shoe as there is then no seal and water would just get through. What am I missing?!

The water shouldn't leak through when tightened up as they are both flat surfaces. The washer is to deal with any irregular/not smooth surfaces.

So it’s right I just need to align the tap body and the shoe as it tightens up?

Appreciate the comment but something just isn't right. The body is barely bigger than the shoe hole, so when I tighten it there is no way you can centre it, there is always a mm gap somewhere. Starting the think I’ve been given a duff tap

Shoe?? Sorry but do you mean the tap's base ring?

You're right though, the ring should have a recess or a raised flange that the tap body sits in/on usually with a locating pin, that's a bad design.

Where did you get it? Personally I'd return it.
Yea thats what I mean I tried to invent a technical term

Thanks, I’ve done plenty of these and never seen this so just wanted to check I wasn’t missing anything. Back it goes
