My apologies if this has been answered already, but I've been searching all day and I can't find what I'm after...

The bathroom pull cord switch I am replacing was a two way switch with COM, A1 and A2 terminals. The new one I've got is (presumably) the same albeit with COM, 1 WAY and 2 WAY terminals. The problem is that I stupidly thought I could remember what wires went where without writing it down. I've finally got round to reconnecting the switch and, surprise surprise, I can't remember.

So, I've currently got the following dangling from my ceiling (all isolated at the consumer unit)

1 twin and earth cable with the red wire and earth visible (the black wire disappears back up into the ceiling)
1 green wire (not copper)
3 red wires

If anyone can shed some light as to what goes where, I would be extremely grateful. Many thanks.

Oh dear,

Well in the first instance at least you have the power off as you are possibly gonna have to do a bit of guesswork with this.

Firstly, do you have and know how to use a continuity tester?
Can you upload a picture of the cables so that we can see what you actually have?
I assume thatr there is another switch as this was an already existing 2-way switch?

Anyways, from first assumption it appears that the line conductor in the twin and cpc cable would be your common feed, and the three reds would be common feed, and two switch lines on to the other switch. The other green cable I would of thought could be with the cage bonding, but as I say, a picture would really help in this situation.

If you have not got a continuity tester then hopefully you may have a method of testing for voltage, then you can sort this out.

Thanks for your interest. Here are two photos showing all the wiring. I'm off to get a continuity and voltage tester which should, if I understand correctly, allow me to find out which wire is which.
