Bathroom wall cladding

Can thee 5mm bathroom wall cladding go straight on to plasterboard/ backer board? Have used it before on top of tiles to get away without removing all the tiles.

Yes used it once, absolutely terrible stuff cheap flimsy and horrible to cut compared to Multipanel / Mermaid panels which I normally use when customer wants it, but I did put them on top of tiles

Thanks yes iv used in top of tiles abit apprehensive to put it straight on plasterboard / backer board.
