Bathroom waste/downpipe spilling over

I have 2 waste pipes, one from the bath and one from the sink, which drop into a trap attached to a downpipe leading to our main drain. The downpipe from the gutter drops above the trap too. Whenever we have a shower or empty the bath, the water spills/splashes over the trap all over the floor, house wall and boundary wall. I have tried adjusting all the pipes so they hit the inside of the trap at different angles, but to no avail. Any help or advice will be gratefully received.

T.

p.s. the toilet waste is not involved at all, as it has it's own separate pipe and drain.

Presumably by 'trap' you actually mean hopper?

If your wastes are overshooting, either you need to re-hash the pipes, clear out any blockages or modernise the toilet stack and boss them into the new stack.

Or, buy a bigger/deeper hopper.

Make sure that the waste pipes are not pushed too far into the hopper outlet as this will stifle the flow of water.
