I have been given a load of spanish slate 500 x 200.They are pre-holed at 200.anyone advise the batten gauge I should use for these,or is that determined by the roof dimensions?
It is determined by the pitch of the roof and the exposure of the site. For a standard pitch of say 30 degrees and normal exposure a 75mm headlap is generally fine giving an approx 212mm battening gauge
indeed, just saying what the standard gauge and lap would be. the 200 gauge will of course give a more than sufficient 100 headlap (unless you have a really low pitch or high exposure)
