Batten Gauge

Hi
Can anyone help me, i am building a new front porch to my house and am trying to work out the best way to slate the roof.
Firstly i am using natural 20x10 slates and was wondering what is the correct batten gauge for these?
Secondly i am installing lead soakers on the abutment wall and bedding on the slates to the verge on the other side, i dont know which is the best side to start with my full slate?? any help would be appreciated.

250mm x 500mm slates, with a headlap of 76mm require batten spacing of 212mm.

If your useing pre holed new slate check the holing with the supplier, often they are holed for 100mm head lap so adjust gauge acordingly..otherwise as Noseall said

Try and gauge the slates through the roof and try to avoid small cuts on verges.
