Our boiler was serviced on 31 January I was giving a print out confirming that the boiler was working at 97.5% efficiency.I mentioned to the engineer that for the last couple of months, the boiler never ignited first time and occasionally have to reset the lockout, but invariably it always ignites. The engineer could not find anything obvious so called Baxi, they suggested a new gas valve was required ( at this point the boiler was still working). The gas valve was fitted last Wednesday but the boiler refused to spark into life, various other components were changed including ignition board, the electrodes kit, and burner, a new door seal was also fitted all to no avail.Baxi then suggested another lead be changed this was fitted the following day, again no change.Over the last two years virtually every major component has been changed with the exception of the control PCB and including the heat exchanger. We have now been without hot water and central heating for 6 days, does anyone have any suggestions please. The maintenance company are now trying to say the boiler is beyond economic repair, even though it was working fine before they fitted the new gas valve and virtually all major components are less than two years old

It seems like the guy isn't actually tracing the fault but just changing bits until he gets it right. I'm hoping you not paying for the parts
It's getting uneconomical cause he doesn't know what's wrong!
If it was working b4 the new gas valve perhaps something to do with this?
is it the ignition lockout that's lit?
Do you hear any spark before it fails on first attemt?
Baxi will do a first call fix if you sign up for their contract. £21 per month and no charge for initial repair. Have a look at their heatteam website.

Thank you for the quick reply. The cost of all the parts is being met by the company we have the service contract with. I do not hear any attempt to spark, however the engineer insisted there was a spark there. I agree with you that it seems obvious that the new gas valve may be at fault as the boiler was working before the new valve was fitted. We have a senior engineer coming tomorrow morning, but to be honest based on previous experience I am not confident

just a suggestion I have one of these boilers and for the last seven years it has been a pain before the first one was two months old it broke the gas fitter being a friend just took it back to the supplier and fitted a new one.but this on is just as bad.if your burner is not loose your door is sealed if it is firing up then shutting down just get the igniter wires checked mine has had all these problems it all boiled down to the wires being black and rotten but you could not see because of the brown sheath.i had a sparking noise in the pub and we looked and there was arcing where they plugged into the pcb i was ready to buy a new one when we decided to get new igniters as well .started removing wires and pulled on them hard and they didn't feel good .removed igniter and gasket fell in a million pieces replaced gasket repaired wire and you would not believe it it fired up and we have tried it and its ok that was 8 am this morn and its stopping and starting every time .so was it the resistance in the wire or the gasket on the igniter ! suppose the wires get hot and cool down but no pcb to buy thank god.i don't think any boilers 100 percent reliable just like cars they all have their problems.

Now you tell us!

Those companies have to employ some of the less good engineers! Most of them have little skill and just change parts.

Your boiler is unfortunately one of the less reliable ones and a maintenance contract good value to you.

But they have accepted the boiler on contract so it is up to them to fix it.

If their staff cannot do that then they can call the manufacturer's engineers who are familiar with whats needed to fix them. If need be you can ask them to do that.

Being without hot water for six days is a bit unreasonable with their resources.

Let us know what the senior engineer has to say. It seems to me that the nupty engineer made a booboo when he changed the gas valve.
