I found my solution via this website (in particular from ChrisR and TomK) so I thought I would put my problem and solution down in case other people search this site.
I had CH but no DHW regardless of setting. No fault lights. Microswitch functioned when pressed manually and although the TAP light lit there was still no DHW. When CH was active I still had no DHW
The push rod did not move out of the manifold gland at all when DHW taps were turned on . The gland had large amounts of limescale deposits and was leaking water (constant drip) through the push rod exit aperture
After disassembling the DHW flow valve manifold (part #248063) I found a tear in the diaphragm although the pushrods moved freely
The following kit fixed the problem:
BAXI 5111137 DIAPHRAGM SERVICE KIT Hrpc part number is
458898 and it cost me £18
Hopefully this can help other people who have similar problems
Although I didnt use this site (http://www.ezypart.co.uk/new_parts) there is a good description of the DHW flow vale function - http://www.ezypart.co.uk/parts/part_id__2243 .
