i have a baxi back boiler 50/4 it centrally placed in my lounge
has a creamy marble surround , mahagonay surround and a very traditional black and brass fire front - which - since looking online - probably cost the previous owners a fair bob or two
but i do not like it - i looked for replacement 'modern' ones but they seem to be around the 12 - 1500 price range !! ouch

so my question is.. can i have all the firefront taken out surround etc and have no front? and cover it with a radiator cover so its ventlated still
the boiler works fine and i am in no financial posistion to have it ripped out and get a small wall mounted one - don't fix what isn't broken!

[ don't fix what isn't broken!)

Think you've answer your own question with the above buddy.
Both appliances act as one, so no you can't remove it!
But 1500 notes is steep, there's only a couple of fire front renewals still being made. An this depends on the back boiler model. Speak to baxi, or go on baxi's website.
i just quoted for one 700 notes for inset type, so i'd say someones trying to make a new boiler swap out of you!!!!

thanks for reply, i have been reading some older posts on here about baxi back boilers, and have come to the decision that i shall remove the wood surround and marble stuff and place a rad cover to hide the fire but leave it untouched and fully working , just disguised, then should i sell the house (not likely soon) everything still works as it should and the hearth can be put back and look traditional again

this seems a good plan... and i think safe as i will not tamper with the gas and the rad cover is vented

No no no

Leave the fire alone, you cannot do what you are proposing. I imagine you have blocked the air vent too

The Baxi SP fire front is quite nice and have seen them new from around £700.

You can find used/refurbished ones, however ALL gas appliances MUST be checked and install correctly, and never altered in any way.

i have the sp firefront looks like a real fire with coals and brass grills etc - just not my taste in appearance .

and no petit pablo i promise not to block the vents - the fire is being left untouched - unblocked - staying just as it is but with a ready made radiator cabinet stood infront so i don't have to see it - the cabinet has horizontal grills that can be removed for access to fire and servicing and still has airflow etc -

is this still bad ?

no different to a firescreen one would use to stop kids messing about the coals and controls etc

i haven't done it yet... i have ripped off the dado rails and stripped wall paper - the marble and mahogany are deffo going though

sorry my mistake i do not have a sp firefront - i am looking online again at alternatives
the sp has glass fronts and is quite nice but very costly
i have bermuda inset 2 - which probably did cost a bit just very traditional
i will look som emore
thanks for everyones contributions so far....

please add to discussion ...
