Moved into a private rented property today, I have a Baxi boiler and my hot water works fine but central heating does not. I have 4 children in the house and we are freezing are butts off ‍♀️
If I attach some pictures hopefully someone can help me, I thought I’d be able to use the boiler manually without the salus but it’s not letting me the thermostat screen isn’t even working properly! I just want a warm home

Attached are the operating instructions for the thermostat and receiver.
Have you attempted to change the batteries in the stat, with some new, good quality alkaline batteries?
Could we also have a better picture of the round black timer control on the right hand side of the boiler?

Thank you, I will give it a read through as I don’t have any here. Yes batteries have been changed as I see that on another forum but the screen isn’t showing the digits properly no matter what I try, I can’t make out what numbers I am looking at if that makes any sense. I will take a picture of the dial soon, just heading to my mum’s as the house is too cold for the children. Thanks for the reply

It looks as if the timer switch - the white slide switch within the black dial - is set to 0 (off).
Have you tried setting this to 1?

If setup correctly this still wouldn't fire up the heating - it would then depend on the Salus.
Even without the display operating, try pressing the up button on the Salus thermostat multiple times.
If the Salus is working; when the setpoint temperature is reached, the stat will call for heat, a green light will illuminate on the receiver, and hopefully the boiler will fire.

Not what you want to hear, but I’ve been told Salus are dire. When you increased the temperature, so you get a green light on the receiver?

No I don’t get a green light unfortunately :( really worried about not getting this working, it’s unfortunately too cold to stay here at night. Landlord can’t get anyone out until next week

too cold ? are gas engineers busy in the artic at this time of year .?

/.

Yes at night the temperature drops and I have a child who has just had a back operation, I can’t expect him to deal with shivering. It’s a new home, laminate flooring and not much furniture, it’s very cold. As I said, landlord can’t do anything until next week and I cannot afford to do so myself due to the cost of moving etc. sorry if that bothers anyone, I came on here for some advice, that was all.

This is absolutely your landlords responsibility.
They should get someone out to sort this.

You shouldn't need to do this and it could leave you liable for repairs, but you could bridge out the Salus, if you really must.
There should be two wires; one going in to the COM terminal and one going into the NO terminal.

These are likely to be at mains voltage.
With the power safely isolated, put both these wires into the COM terminal.
With power restored, the Salus should be linked out and the heating will be manually controlled from the boiler, without a thermostat.

If any of this doesn't make sense, leave it to your landlord, or post a photo of the wiring behind the Salus receiver.

Yeah I’ve seen how bad they are, never had to deal with that kind of thing before. Like I mentioned earlier my son has had a back op for his scoliosis, so being cold wasn’t an option. Just so happy the house is warm. Appreciate all the advice you had to offer and thank goodness you found a solution for me! Have a lovely rest of your weekend
