Baxi ignition lockout question

I've got a Baxi Barcelona but recently it has had a few ignition lockouts.

The condensate trap is clean, the spark and sensing electrodes look quite serviceable. I only once managed to get it to lockout while I was watching it and it had about five attempts at igniting and then locked out. On each attempt the fan came on, I heard the relays but I couldn't hear the spark.

I can only think that the Ignition PCB occasionally fails to do its thing though it looks to be in good condition; the relay contacts all look like new and there are no signs of the components or pcb getting too hot.

I obviously don't want to replace the Ignition PCB unnecessarily so I guess my question is can anyone think of another likely cause for it not to spark or maybe perhaps confirm that they have heard of intermittent Ignition PCB's on this model or similar.

the problem is that boiler is crap! don't waste any more money on it-put it towards a replacement. you may need a new spark electrode, gas valve, pcb or burner (the latter three being very costly!)

About 2 years ago I took out a BG service contract and then got them to fix a strange noise that occurred during ignition.

The problem turned out to be the main PCB as the fan wasn't coming on during the ignition phase resulting in the gas igniting under the burner until the main gas valve opened and the fan then started.

BG kindly replaced all the following before eventually changing the faulty main PCB:-

condensate trap
electrodes,
burner
fan
combustion chamber cover and seals
sump and seals


I stopped the contract because after the initial year they put the premiums up a lot and I figured that as most of the boiler was new that I'd _probably_ get a few trouble free years out of it.

You'll notice the ommision of ignition PCB in the list so I'm sort of hoping that a new ignition PCB will fix the problem and be a ressonable investment now. After all when the boiler is working it is still as efficient as the latest condensing boilers.

You might well be better off getting BG to do a fixed price repair at about £200.

or even better get back on contract, thinking any part on this boiler will last longer than 5 minutes is seriously naive
