Hi all.
I am going to change my heating system ( pumpted heating and gravity hot water) to a combi sysytem.
A freind at work bought a new Baxi Main 30he Eco boiler last month, but has decided not to install it he has decided to move house now.

He has offered me at a very good price £450( thanks to the credit crunch)

But my first question are these boiler reliable? i would rather not buy it if they are unrelable, rather wait a save for a worcester etc.

I have looked on the Baxi site and cant see the 30he eco, but can see a 30 eco-tec. Is the 30he eco an older model?

go for it. its a decent enough budget boiler as far as I can see. Nothing special about Worcester. Only thing I would say is just make sure it gets a good quality service each year as cast ally heat exchangers have a habit of creating debris in the sump and trap which will need cleaning out.
You won't find it on he Baxi site, have a look on the Main site
google Main Heating and you'll get it

Baxi boilers are reliable I personally think Worcester boilers are better, but a 30kw boiler will give you the same hot water performance whatever make it is.

Here is a link below with the technical spec for a Baxi 30 he.

Compare the technical spec to that of other boilers you won't find a great deal of difference.

The main thing you need to look out for is the heat input (kw) and the flow rate (ltrs per min)

Can you explain this to me about the ali heat exchanger please?
Do they corroide?

Its more a product of a chemical reaction in combustion than straight forward corrosion.
Traditionally ally heat exchangers produce more debris from combustion than your average condensing boiler. Depends on the manufacturer how bad this can be. Ideal Isars/Icos for example are terrible and cause all sorts of problems, worcesters, and glowworm flexicoms on the other hand seem to be very moderate and manageable. However its still very important its cleaned out properly periodically. If its left uncleaned for years on end it could build up and cause problems.

I'm assuming this is the boiler we're talking about

My Aunty has the Main 30HE, it was new when she moved in, within a few months the condensing heat exchanger failed and flooded the kitchen, it was replaced and two weeks later the same thing happen. Then the ignitor of some sort failed.

She used to set the flow temperature in the 50's which might have caused a lot of condensation that the boiler doesn't like even though it is supposed to be condensing. I told her to try setting the flow at 80 and since then nothing has failed, it's been a year now.
