We've got a Baxi Solo 1 PF 30/4 boiler and about two weeks ago a clicking noise was coming from the boiler and the main burner refuse to light, eventually coming on.

Eventually got a guy out who said it was the pilot electrode that had gone, fitted that and then charged me £130 for the pleasure. Once he left the sound started again. Got him back in the next day, talked to a few "experts" from the help lines who said it must be the control panel. So I thought I may have a wee rummage about myself.

The notes I took were, relay switch 1 is making the clicking noise, sometimes it fires up straight away then starts clicking about 5 mins after lit. While this clicking is going on the I can see the main burner drop and rise, drop and rise until eventually it drops dead and the clicking continues. Sometimes it lights again, most of the time it stays dead.

The overheat stat button on the side is loose, the only way I can describe it is you push it but nothing is there, you have to turn it upside down for the button to pop out again if you know what I mean.

Today I tried bypassing the overheat stat by taking the connector from the overheat stat and plugging that into the thermostat switch circuit, still the same.

I've been speaking to an engineer and he thinks (amongst other things) that it may be the P.C.B. I'm going to bite the bullet and get one tomorrow. If anyone has any other ideas please let me know before I waste my £90 odd quid !

Sorry if I've made this so complicated but I've tried to get as much down in writing as I can....

Cheers

Kenny

Tried the control panel no difference, infact the old P.C.B lights the boiler then dies....
