This boiler started making a noise like the fan was spinning but hitting something metal on every fin. This only happend when the it fired up and after a few minutes it would stop. Now we have now heat or water (or noise!). I am presuming that the fan has now given up. How easy is it to replace a fan and can it be done by a competant diy-er?

I think that the fan is fairly simple to replace if you're basically competent

I think, however, you need to inspect the fan and see what has happened - first noisy and then stopped, possibly its the air rotor (impeller) has just slipped on the shaft and needs resiting and tightening up (2 or 2.5mm allen key IIRC)
