I have replaced the Thermocouple on my otherwise bombproof 15 year old Baxi Solo WM 50/4RS for the second time in 18 months. So now I'm wondering if there is anything else I should be looking at (eg injector) that may be causing the failure of the Thermocouple.

Any ideas :?: Or just a dodgy replacement part.

for the second time in 18 months.

Could be faulty placement or 'common mode leakage' (whatever that is).
If you can measure the open circuit and loaded voltage output it might give you a clue as to placement problems.

Are you using the proper tcouple for the solo and not somehow got a universal to fit ?

AFAIK, it is correct as it is a particular short one. Bought from a local plumber's merchant but I can't recall the packaging to be totally sure.

I shall measure it but not sure what to expect.

You need to find specs on it.
For a 750 mV 'couple one maker listed the internal resistance as 2.89 ohms and usually the loaded voltage is half that, for maximum power transfer into a load of ~3 ohms.
I'd guess that the circuitry fed by this is ruining it.

How long do you expect a Thermocouple to last??
we always replace thermocouples on the 12 monthly Service to avoid call-backs and breakdowns it's only a cheapo part ! ;)

A original part t/couple should last ten years easily
.
Cheapo universals should even last a few years if your changing them every year. you want to try giving your customer a value for money t/couple or nickel plated which are not expensive we are talking less than a tenner for the vast majority of boilers

Of course he should not be touching it.

Nor should the others be advising him either!

I rent a 4 bed semi (9 rads and 1 bathroom, open vent CH but mains pressure water cylinder) with an ageing Baxi Solo WM50/4RS (12Kw) boiler.

Tony

Its actually even worse because he does not even own the property!

For some reason he wants to fiddle with the landlord's boiler.
