At Mums she currently has fitted & working fine a Baxi VP gas fire front with Baxi back boiler. Due to recent medical problems she is having a Worcester combi boiler fitted shortly and I would like to know if the Baxi VP fire can be used independantly of the back boiler if the boiler is capped off.
I was told that if she had a new standard gas fire fitted then a new chimney flue would need to be installed as the old 1 could've deteriorated. Would the existing fire need anything added if it is possible to use as a fire alone.

The fire can continue to be used BUT the boiler MUST be properly decommissioned. The RGI should be aware of a Gas SasSasfe technical bulletin on the subject.
If you had a new fire, the liner muyst be removed but it is not necessarily the cscsase that a new one would have to be fitted.

As Fireman says, fire can be used with back boiler decommissioned.

Great fire that puts out good heat.

Make sure fire gets regular service

As with all the above advice yes keep the same fire and have the BBU decommissioned correctly and dont expect the new boiler to last as long as the old BBU did they are virtually bomb proof
