I have a 1930s semi with bay windows. I want to raise the height of the downstairs bay window ceiling so that it matches the ceiling of them room and make the room look bigger. I am hoping to do it myself. I just want to know if it is possible as i dont want to remove all that plaster only to find that there is some nasty concrete lintel in the way or something, I have knocked on the wall and it sounds like plasterboard. has anyone out there ever done this before? I am not a builder but my guess is that its supporting the front of the house and you will find a lintel there,,,,,but the experts will be here soon to let you know

It is linteled across and there is other structural detail in that soffit/low ceiling.
Perhaps, leave well alone - it's not worth the expense and trouble.
